PREPARATION

Before starting, you ensure your hands and nails are well cleaned. File your nails if necessary, so that there are no snags. By doing this you prevent damages on the face and risk of infection.

Always work using clean materials (sponges, brushes, spatulas, water bowls) and change the water regularly.

Get the subject to put on any clothes beforehand that have to be put on over the head. Protect your models clothing with a hairdressing cape or a towel.

First degrease and clean the skin you are going to be working on with Grimas Cleansing Lotion. Then dry the skin with a tissue.

Take the Latex Boxer's Nose (Latex Noses and Sets no 22) out of the box and place it on the skin to get an impression of whether the edges are a good fit and where it is soon going to be glued on.
Mark out the edge on the skin with a make-up pencil or some Transparent Powder

Put a piece of wadding in the nose to maintain its shape and to absorb perspiration.
Colouring latex
Everything that is going to be coloured in a skin tone - except for the edges - must be pre-coloured slightly with red to suggest naturally perfused skin. To do this, apply Grimas Special Effects Powder 504 or a red Grimas Eyeshadow/Rouge using a Make-up Sponge or Powder Rouge Brush.
Then use a sponge to apply a covering layer of Grimas Camouflage Make-up Pure in the desired skin shade.

STICKING ON LATEX

Apply a little Grimas Mastix Extra to the inside of the scales/adhesive edge and allow it to dry for a few seconds. Do the following to get the correct degree of adhesion: press the latex prostetic lightly in place and then remove it again straight away. Wait a few seconds and reposition the application, pressing the edges in place with a tissue. Protect the eyes by closing them and covering them with a tissue. Can cause serious damage to the eyes.

Work directly from the stick or spatula. Note: don't use Crème Make-up Pure for skin tones, but use Grimas Camouflage Make-up Pure.
You can create a skin structure with a Grimas Stippel Sponge if necessary.

Camouflaging the latex edges:
To get a smooth transition between the latex prostetic and the skin, even the edges off as follows: apply a thin line of eyelash adhesive to the edge of a sponge and dab this over the transition between the latex prostetic and the skin. Allow to dry with help of a hairdryer until the result is transparent. Repeat this process until a nice and even transition is obtained.
Colour the edges of the transition with the colour being used.

DERMA WAX

To create skin deformities, you use Grimas Derma Wax.
Grimas Derma Wax is a transparent wax that adheres to the skin well, used for professional make-up effects such as creating various wounds and deformities on the skin. Its composition means that Derma Wax also adheres long lasting to soft and mobile parts of the skin, staying elastic.

Apply the Derma Wax in a curve from the forehead to the cheek.

DERMA WAX = Derma Wax
Procedure for Derma Wax
Use the convex rounded side of the Derma Wax Spatula to take Derma Wax out of the jar. By scraping it out, you already make the texture a bit flexible. You then make the wax easier to model by applying it to the ball of your thumb and scraping it off again with the spatula two or three times. The wax must be flexible but also firm and must definitely not be allowed to get too soft and sticky.

Apply the Derma Wax in a curve from the forehead to the cheek. Model it and dab it off as usual.
Smooth the edges flat so that grease and moisture can not get underneath. Smooth the Derma Wax surface and edges off with the fingertip, using a little bit of Grimas Cleansing Cream. Dab all over with a dry, clean make-up sponge. Doing this, you remove the excess Cleansing Cream and you create a skin-texture effect. Powder the whole with a make-up sponge with Grimas Transparent Powder to matt and fix it; then turn the sponge over and continue dabbing with the clean side until the excess powder has been removed.

COLOURING THE SKIN

In this example we are using Crème Make-up Pure, as this can be applied easily and blends beautifully. Keep the front of the nose broad by working out the light colour up to the side of the nose. The nose now looks bigger than it is. Then work according to the principles of highlighting/shading to obtain more expression. By using a dark colour up against the light colour, the light part comes extra in prominence.

Apply blue Crème Make-up at the corner of the eye and dark red make-up on the sunken parts. Work it out, making sure that the colours blend. You can then tone down the colours using yellow make-up. You can also use the yellow colour to make the area around the eye look somewhat more swollen. You colour the part of the skin below the eyebrows yellow as well to create an overhanging effect.

FINISHING

To create an 'open wound', the Derma Wax construction has to be 'cut open' with the sharp side of a Derma Wax spatula. Lubricate the tip of the spatula with a little bit of Cleansing Cream. This will allow the spatula to slide more easily through the Derma Wax, preventing it from sticking to the spatula. Make a cut in the Derma Wax using the sharp side of the spatula.

First you colour the wound black, using a brush, to suggest depth. Then apply a little dark red Crème Make-up and finally add Filmblood or Blood.

FILMBLOOD = Filmblood
BLOOD = Blood
Use a brush to colour the inside of the nostril dark red and then add Filmblood or Blood. Apply copious amounts of blood using a brush, until the blood starts to run.

To create a sweaty effect, apply a little glycerine or transparent gloss locally using a brush.

FILMBLOOD = Filmblood
BLOOD = Blood
REMOVING THE PRODUCTS

Removing the latex application
Detach the adhesive edge with a cotton bud soaked in Grimas Mastix Remover. Remove the adhesive and make-up residues from the latex prostetic with Mastix Remover.

Massage Grimas Multi Remover Pure or Cleansing Cream into the skin.
Scrape the Derma Wax off the skin with the spatula.
Repeat this.

If a slight film forms on the skin, cleanse it afterwards with Grimas Cleansing Lotion.

If Blood, Filmblood or Blood Paste got onto clothing, rinse it out under a tap. Leave the item of clothing to soak in water containing a pre-wash (Biotex). Then wash it by hand or put it in the washing machine.

FILMBLOOD = Filmblood
BLOOD PASTE = Blood Paste
CLEARING UP THE MATERIALS

Clean the latex prostetic afterwards using water and soap, and powder it with Grimas Transparent Powder after drying (with a dryer, if necessary). Keep in a dark place.

The sponges are disposable so you can throw them away after use. If you do want to reuse them, first rinse them under the tap with some soap or shampoo or wash them in the washing machine (in a net bag or pillow case), set to at least 60°C.

You can clean brushes with water and soap or shampoo. Put the moist hairs of the brushes back into shape by hand after washing. Dry the brushes lying flat on a towel and do not place them upright, since that causes the moisture to run down into the shaft.
