PREPARATION

Before starting, you ensure your hands and nails are well cleaned. File your nails if necessary, so that there are no snags. By doing this you prevent damages on the face and risk of infection.

Always work using clean materials (sponges, brushes, spatulas, water bowls) and change the water regularly.

Get the subject to put on any clothes beforehand that have to be put on over the head. Protect your models clothing with a hairdressing cape or a towel.

This character has eyebrows made of Wool Crepe.
You can make the Wool Crepe eyebrows beforehand.

MAKING EYEBROWS

Pull a braid of about 10 cm of Wool Crepe loose from the strings that it has been wound around. If you feel resistance, you cut the strings loose so that you can continue.

WOLCRÊPE = Wool Crepe
Pull the start of the straight-edge cut piece loose, so that its end becomes fluffy.
Split the piece in two.
Pull one piece loose from the braid.
Pull the piece that has been separated off gently to get it to the right length.
Pull gently to the right length
Now make the piece that you are working with longer and looser: run it through your hands and pull it gently bit by bit in the lengthwise direction, but so that the piece still remains intact.
Pull the loosened piece into two in the middle, in the lengthwise direction along with the hairs; place the two pieces on top of each other and divide them into two again. Keep repeating this action until the Wool Crepe is transparent.
WOLCRÊPE = Wool Crepe
Use hairspray with a strong hold to strengthen the piece. You can also use plastic spray.
Note: using hairspray or plastic spray on the Wool Crepe will make it inflammable.
WOLCRÊPE = Wool Crepe
Roll it in one direction between the palms of your hands and keep spraying in the meantime to get more grip. Continue until the piece has been rolled tightly and has become more like a dreadlock in shape.

Cut this piece cleanly diagonally.
You now have two pieces that you can make two eyebrows from.
First degrease and clean the skin you are going to be working on with Grimas Cleansing Lotion. Then dry the skin with a tissue. Put a bandage over the eye and stick it in place using plasters around the edge.

To create skin deformities, you use Grimas Derma Wax.

PROCEDURE FOR DERMA WAX

Use the convex rounded side of the Derma Wax Spatula to take Derma Wax out of the jar. By scraping it out, you already make the texture a bit flexible.

DERMA WAX SPATULA = Derma Wax Spatula
DERMA WAX = Derma Wax
You then make the wax easier to model by applying it to the ball of your thumb and scraping it off again with the spatula two or three times.
The wax must be flexible but also firm and must definitely not be allowed to get too soft and sticky.
Apply the soft, flexible wax layer by layer over the eye that has been taped over. Apply the Derma Wax with the convex rounded side of the spatula and smooth the edges down so that grease and moisture cannot get underneath. Work in the Derma Wax out over the edge of the plaster. Smooth the Derma Wax surface and edges off with the fingertip, using a little bit of Grimas Cleansing Cream.

Now press the Artificial Eye into the Derma Wax construction. Use bits of Derma Wax to mould an upper and lower eyelid around the Artificial Eye.

Then you make a number of lumps, using Derma Wax taking into account that you use the same approach every time: take it out, soften it and apply it.

Now apply a base of Crème Make-up Pure over the entire face, including the Derma Wax deformities.
Take the Crème Make-up Pure out with a clean spatula and work from the spatula. Apply it with a slightly damp latex sponge or make-up sponge onto the skin. Work the base out properly, up into the hairline, and do not forget the ears and neck. This is how you avoid a mask-like effect.

SHADOWING AND HIGHLIGHTING

By shadowing and lightening you create a depth effect. You work according to the aging principle:
Important areas for shading are the eye sockets, the temples, the side of the nose and below the cheekbones. The vertical frown wrinkle and the naso-labial ('nose-lip') fold are also important areas to shadow. You draw the lines with a flat sable-hair brush. By placing it obliquely on the skin you get a sharp edge on one side and a fading effect on the other side. To determine which side should be sharp and which side faded, you start from the centre of the face (nose). Create a fading effect towards the outside.

You can also work with shadows in the Derma Wax structure around the eye and in the warts to suggest depth. In this example we are using Crème Make-up Pure, as this can be applied easily and blends beautifully.

CRÈME MAKE-UP PURE = Crème Make-up Pure
If the non-shaded parts are lightened, this will enhance the effect of bringing those areas "forward".
Apply white make-up to the higher parts of the forehead, above the temple, next to the frown wrinkles on the wings of the nose and on top of the nose. The eyebag is also lightened a little. Between the higher parts of the brow some subtle shadowing is done to generate more depth. You also let the warts stand out more by making them lighter.

The shading and lightening must blend into the basic colour in a natural way. If necessary, blur the segments and lines that are to be faded with the fingers or a dry make-up sponge. You do this with a dabbing action, without wiping.
To fix and mattify, you can powder the Crème Make-up Pure off with Grimas Fixing Powder or Make-up Powder.

ATTACHING EYEBROWS

Use Cleansing Lotion to cleanse the areas where you are going to be sticking Wool Crepe eyebrows. Using Grimas Mastix Extra (or Mastix Watersoluble in a training course situation), you attach the eyebrows step by step.

Protect the eyes by closing them and covering them with a tissue. Absolutely do not use on children near or above the eyes.

Fix them on top of the natural eyebrows. Apply glue to the part of the skin concerned and press the cut surface/obliquely cut side into the adhesive. You use scissors to create the desired model for the eyebrows. If necessary, open the structure a little and model them using the end of a pin-tail comb or the back of a brush. Repeat the process of cutting and opening if necessary until the desired result has been achieved.

REMOVING THE PRODUCTS

If you have worked with Grimas Mastix Watersoluble, you can remove the Wool Crepe with lukewarm water and a little soap if necessary. Wool Crepe that has been stuck on with Mastix Extra you remove with Mastix Remover. You can then already pull some of the hairs loose and remove them with a tissue. The remaining hairs and the adhesive you remove with a cotton wool pad and Mastix Remover.
Scrape the Derma Wax off the skin with the spatula. Then massage Grimas Multi Remover Pure or Cleansing Cream into the skin and remove the material with a tissue. Cleanse the skin afterwards with Grimas Cleansing Lotion.
