PREPARATION

Before starting, you ensure your hands and nails are well cleaned. File your nails if necessary, so that there are no snags. With this you avoid damaging the skin and avoids the risk of infections.

Always work using clean materials (sponges, brushes, spatulas, water bowls) and change the water regularly.

Protect your models clothing with a hairdressing cape or a towel.

If, with a wound, the skin surface has to be raised or deformed in some way, then you use Grimas Derma Wax. First degrease and clean the skin you are going to be working on with Grimas Cleansing Lotion. Then wipe dry with a tissue.

CLEANSING LOTION = Cleansing Lotion
Use the convex rounded side of the Derma Wax Spatula to take Derma Wax out of the jar. By scraping it out, you already make the texture a bit flexible.

You then make the wax easier to model by applying it to the ball of your thumb and scraping it off again with the spatula two or three times.
The wax must be flexible but also firm and must definitely not be allowed to get too soft and sticky.
MODELLING

Bend the finger and extend the finger section with Derma Wax. Smooth the edges flat so that grease and moisture can not get underneath.

DERMA WAX = Derma Wax
Smooth the Derma Wax surface and edges off with the fingertip, using a little bit of Grimas Cleansing Cream.

DAB/MATTIFY

Dab all over with a dry, clean make-up sponge. Doing this, you remove the excess Cleansing Cream and you create a skin-texture effect.

Powder the whole with a make-up sponge with Grimas Transparent Powder to matt and fix it; then turn the sponge over and continue dabbing with the clean side until the excess powder has been removed.

FINISHING

Opening the wound edges up allows you to create a tattered effect. Raise the 'wound edges' using a Derma Wax spatula, lightly lubricated with Cleansing Cream. Do this carefully.

To add a suggestion of depth to the 'wound', colour the bottom of the wound using black make-up. Then you colour the inner side of the wound with dark red make-up (Grimas Water Make-up Pure or Crème Make-up Pure). Colour all around the 'outer side' of the Derma Wax as well.
WATER MAKE-UP (PURE) = Water Make-up Pure
CRÈME MAKE-UP PURE = Crème Make-up Pure
DERMA WAX = Derma Wax
Finally, you add Grimas Blood, Filmblood or Blood Paste to get the required effect.
Grimas Blood Paste is a dark red very thick paste for making older wounds (clotted blood effect) and various special effects. The stiff structure of the Blood Paste lets you produce three-dimensional effects. To improve adhesion to the skin, first clean with Grimas Cleansing Lotion.
Apply Blood Paste to the skin with a Derma Wax spatula. The structure can be modelled for a short time (approximately 5 minutes). Close the packaging properly after use.

FILMBLOOD = Filmblood
BLOOD PASTE = Blood Paste
CLEANSING LOTION = Cleansing Lotion
DERMA WAX SPATULA = Derma Wax Spatula
Please note: hold the two upper sections of the 'ripped off' finger in place with the thumb; this helps keep the finger bent while creating or showing the effect.

Hint: keep a tissue around the 'ripped off finger' wound. It makes it look as if you are stopping the blood flowing and helps mask the bent finger. It also prevents leakage of Blood or Filmblood onto clothing.

FILMBLOOD = Filmblood
REMOVING THE PRODUCTS

Massage Grimas Multi Remover Pure or Cleansing Cream into the skin.
Scrape the Derma Wax off the skin with the spatula.
Repeat this.

If a slight film forms on the skin, cleanse it afterwards with Grimas Cleansing Lotion.

MULTI REMOVER PURE = Multi Remover Pure
CLEANSING CREAM / SKINCARE CREAM = Cleansing Cream
CLEANSING LOTION = Cleansing Lotion
If Blood, Filmblood or Blood Paste got onto clothing, rinse it out under a tap. Leave the item of clothing to soak in water containing a pre-wash (Biotex). Then wash it by hand or put it in the washing machine.
BLOOD = Blood
FILMBLOOD = Filmblood
BLOOD PASTE = Blood Paste
CLEARING UP THE MATERIALS

The sponges are disposable so you can throw them away after use. If you do want to reuse them, first rinse them under the tap with some soap or shampoo or wash them in the washing machine (in a net bag or pillow case), set to at least 60°C.

You can clean brushes with water and soap or shampoo. Put the moist hairs of the brushes back into shape by hand after washing. Dry the brushes lying flat on a towel and do not place them upright, since that causes the moisture to run down into the shaft.
