PREPARATION

Before starting, you ensure your hands and nails are well cleaned. File your nails if necessary, so that there are no snags. By doing this you prevent damages on the face and risk of infection.

Always work using clean materials (sponges, brushes, spatulas, water bowls) and change the water regularly.

Get the subject to put on any clothes beforehand that have to be put on over the head. Protect your models clothing with a hairdressing cape or a towel.

Grimas Latex Prosthetics are used to achieve a three-dimensional effect when doing the make-up.
When used properly, the latex prostetics can be re-used several times.

PUT ON THE LATEX APPLICATION

Take the latex prostetic out of the box and place it on the skin to get an impression of whether the edges are a good fit and where it is soon going to be glued on.

Mark the outline using the make-up that you are going to be using. The marking makes sure that you will be able to put the latex prostetic in place correctly first time later.

Apply a little Grimas Mastix Extra to the inside of the scales/adhesive edge and allow it to dry for a few seconds.

Do the following to get the correct degree of adhesion: press the latex prostetic lightly in place and then remove it again straight away.

Protect the eyes by closing them and covering them with a tissue. Can cause serious damage to the eyes.

Allow the glue to dry for 15 seconds and then place the latex prostetic back on the skin.
Use a pin-tail comb to hold the scaly edges properly in place and glue them straight.
Press the edges down firmly with a tissue.
Apply the make-up over the face and the application.
CAKE MAKE-UP

You apply Cake Make-up with a slightly damp make-up sponge. You can press the make-up sponge down onto a tissue to remove any excess moisture. If you work with too much moisture, streaks will form.
First dab a little Cake Make-up onto the hand to check the colour intensity.

CAKE MAKE-UP = Cake Make-up
Work the Cake Make-up out properly, up into the hairline, and do not forget the ears and neck. This is how you avoid a mask-like effect. Cake Make-up dries quickly, so a beautiful result means you have to work fast.

WATER MAKE-UP

Advice: white Cake Make-up is transparent and therefore never completely covers up.
Use white Water Make-up to colour in the snout.

Water Make-up works just like watercolour paint. Don't work too dry, but do not use too much water. If you do not want the colours to mix, be sure to wait for the first layer to dry before applying another colour over it or up against it.

Hint: Regularly change the water you rinse your brushes in and preferably work with two water bowls: one for light and one for dark shades.

The nostrils are also given a dark colour.
FINISHING

Make a dark edge around the top of the nose and draw a shadow line alongside the nose too. You do not have to wait until the previous layer of colour is entirely dry. For a more playful effect, the colours can blend into one another a little.

Add an eyeliner above and below the eye and extend the black lines towards the nose going slightly downwards.

Grimas Water Make-Up (Pure) can be used around the eyes, but children often do not like it when brushes are so close to the eyes. So decide yourself how far you want to extend the colour.
When working under the eyes, have your model look upwards - only with the eyes, without moving the head. If you work above the eyes (eyelid), have your model close his/her eyes in a relaxed manner.
Children are inclined to shut their eyes tight. Then you can say: keep your eyes closed as if you are sleeping.

WATER MAKE-UP (PURE) = Water Make-up Pure
Use a stipple sponge to add black spots to the snout. This accentuates the effect of whiskers.

Dab a moist Stubble Sponge into black Grimas Water Make-up (Pure). Hold the Stubble Sponge between the fingers and compress it gently, so that it becomes a bit convex. Test the colour intensity on the hand first. Then work dabbing onto the skin: do not use a brushing motion, since you would remove the structured effect.

Draw a contour line along the lower lip and then colour the lip in pink.
When working with Water Make-up preferably use separate brushes for light and dark colours.
Add small contrast lines in black at the whiskers.

Smooth out the hairline. Alternating between the broad and narrow sides of the brush, draw short lines from the hairline and use your fingers to blend it in with the rest of the make-up.
With a contrasting colour you create stripes to suggest more depth for a lively effect. If you do not want the colours to mix, be sure to wait for the first layer to dry before applying another colour over it or up against it.

Do not use ready-to-use cleansing cloths.

You can lightly wash the skin with lukewarm water and soap (or shampoo) to already remove a great part. Massage it in briefly and rinse off with lukewarm water. Scrubbing too much with water and soap or shampoo can irritate the skin.

You can clean the skin further if required with a cleansing milk or cleansing cream. Massage it in gently and remove it with a soft tissue.

If the skin feels dry after cleaning, you can apply a care cream.
If Water Make-up gets onto clothing, rinse it out under a tap. Leave the item of clothing to soak in water containing a pre-wash (Biotex). Then wash it by hand or put it in the washing machine.
When used properly, the latex prostetics can be re-used several times.
Remove the adhesive and make-up residues from the latex prostetic with Mastix Remover. Clean the latex prostetic afterwards using water and soap, and powder it with Grimas Transparent Powder after drying (with a dryer, if necessary).

CLEARING UP THE MATERIALS

If necessary, rinse the Water Make-up clean and wipe the surfaces of the colours dry with clean tissues. Let the make-up dry out in the air and only put the lid back on when the Water Make-up is dry. Store it in a dry and cool place until the next time you use it. Store the make-up in a dry and cool place until the next time you use it.

The sponges are disposable so you can throw them away after use. If you do want to reuse them, first rinse them under the tap with some soap or shampoo or wash them in the washing machine (in a net bag or pillow case), set to at least 60°C.

You can clean brushes with water and soap or shampoo. Put the moist hairs of the brushes back into shape by hand after washing. Dry the brushes lying flat on a towel and do not place them upright, since that causes the moisture to run down into the shaft.
