The shape, width and quality of the brush are to a great extent qualifying the effect you can achieve with it. For instance, round brushes are ideal for making curves and drawing curls. You draw straight lines preferably with a flat brush, keeping the handle of the brush pointed in the direction of the line. To draw a thin line, you do not necessarily need to use a narrow brush. You can also use the edge of a flat brush for that. This brush is also very convenient for making a thick line merge into a thin one, turning the brush on its side in one fluid action as you go automatically changes the line from thick to thinner. When you come to the end of a line, lift the brush from the skin in a single smooth movement.
Hint: to make beautiful, thin lines, you mix the Water Make-up with Cleansing Lotion instead of water.
Whatever the make-up objective, the techniques for lightening/shadowing are the basis of the effects you want to achieve. Shaded/dark segments cause that area to recede optically, whereas highlighted/lighter segments make something stand out optically. Important areas for shading are the eye sockets, the temples, the side of the nose and below the cheekbones.

If you extend sharp lines, for example by extending the naso-labial fold line downwards, this will give a negative and even rather mean effect. The longer the line, the more severe the character will appear. Go for extremes when doing the witch to get a powerful effect.

The pimple on the nose is also lightened to make it stand out more.

After shadowing and lightening, you can use the colours to enliven the character. Apply the make-up to the neck, ear lobes and hands as well for a more believable result.

General tip: Water Make-up can be used to add (additional) colour to the hair and eyebrows, provided that the hair is not permed, bleached or dyed. Use a toothbrush to do this.

Use the brush to add sharp lines upwards to the eyebrows to give a mean effect.
