PREPARATION

Before starting, you ensure your hands and nails are well cleaned. File your nails if necessary, so that there are no snags. By doing this you prevent damages on the face and risk of infection.

Always work using clean materials (sponges, brushes, spatulas, water bowls) and change the water regularly.

Get the subject to put on any clothes beforehand that have to be put on over the head. Protect your models clothing with a hairdressing cape or a towel.

First degrease and clean the skin you are going to be working on with Grimas Cleansing Lotion. Then dry the skin with a tissue.

For the goatee of Cyrano you work in the same way with Wool Crepe as you do when making a beard.

CLEANSING LOTION = Cleansing Lotion
WOLCRÊPE = Wool Crepe
WOOL CREPE GOATEE

Pull a braid of about 50 cm wool crepe loose from the strings around which it has been wound.

WOLCRÊPE = Wool Crepe
If you feel resistance, you cut the strings loose so that you can continue.
Pull the start of the straight-edge cut piece loose, so that its end becomes fluffy.
Pull the start of the straight-edge cut piece loose, so that its end becomes fluffy.
Straighten the part you are working with, using a curler, styling tongs or an iron (on the 'wool' setting), until it has a slight wave.
Straighten the part you are working with, using a curler, styling tongs or an iron (on the 'wool' setting), until it has a slight wave. Do not pull it too hard, so the braid remains intact.
Now make the piece that you are working with longer and looser: run it through your hands and pull it gently bit by bit in the lengthwise direction, but so that the piece still remains intact.
Creating tufts

Pull the loosened string into two equal pieces. Do the following with each of the pieces: pull the piece loose in the middle, in the lengthwise direction with the hairs; then place the two pieces on top of each other and divide them into two again.

Keep the hands about 20 cm apart. Keep repeating this action until the Wool Crepe is transparent.
WOLCRÊPE = Wool Crepe
Hold the Wool Crepe against the light to see if there are any dark patches.
WOLCRÊPE = Wool Crepe
Keep repeating this action until the Wool Crepe is transparent. The pieces get increasingly shorter and thicker.
WOLCRÊPE = Wool Crepe
The pieces get increasingly shorter and thicker.
As soon as the result is transparent, you pull the tuft into a length of 20 to 25 cm again and you spray it with a hairspray with a strong hold to strengthen it. You can also use plastic spray.
Note: using hairspray or plastic spray on the Wool Crepe will make it inflammable.
WOLCRÊPE = Wool Crepe
Snip the tufts gently diagonally across.
Now you have four pieces, which lets you make a complete goatee.
ATTACHING THE GOATEE

Use Grimas Mastix Extra to attach the oblique pieces step by step. Apply glue to the part of the skin concerned and press the cut surface/obliquely cut side into the adhesive.

Attaching sequence: you attach piece 1 just under the chin, with the point forwards.

MASTIX EXTRA = Mastix Extra
If necessary, piece 2 can be made smaller by pulling off a piece from the cut surface towards the hairs.
You attach piece 2 to the chin, in the opposite direction to that of piece 1: the point points downwards in the direction of piece 1.
You attach pieces 3 and 4 close up on the left and right sides of pieces 1 and 2, the points pointing out in the same direction, namely forwards.
Take the nose out of the box. Place it on the skin to get an impression of whether the edges are a goof fit and where it is soon going to be glued on.
NOSE

Put on the latex application
Mark out the edge on the skin with a make-up pencil or some Transparent Powder

= Transparent Powder
Everything that is going to be coloured in a skin tone - except for the edges - must be pre-coloured slightly with red to suggest naturally perfused skin. To do this, apply Grimas Special Effects Powder 504 or a red Grimas Eyeshadow/Rouge using a Make-up Sponge or Powder Rouge Brush.
EYESHADOW/ROUGE = Eyeshadow/Rouge
MAKE-UP SPONGE = Make-up Sponge
BRUSHES POWDER ROUGE = Brushes Powder/Rouge
Then use a sponge to apply a covering layer of Grimas Camouflage Make-up Pure in the desired skin shade. Work directly from the stick or spatula.

If you want to give the latex prostetic a brighter colour, use Grimas Crème Make-up Pure. Note: don't use Crème Make-up Pure for skin tones, but use Grimas Camouflage Make-up Pure.

CAMOUFLAGE MAKE-UP PURE = Camouflage Make-up Pure
Put a piece of wadding in the nose to maintain its shape and to absorb perspiration.
Apply a little Grimas Mastix Extra to the inside of the scales/adhesive edge and allow it to dry for a few seconds.
Do the following to get the correct degree of adhesion: press the latex prostetic lightly in place and then remove it again straight away. Wait a few seconds and reposition the application, pressing the edges in place with a tissue.

Protect the eyes by closing them and covering them with a tissue. Can cause serious damage to the eyes.

LATEX PROSTHETICS = Latex prostetics
Removing powder.
To get a smooth transition between the latex prostetic and the skin, even the edges off as follows: apply a thin line of eyelash adhesive to the edge of a sponge and dab this over the transition between the latex prostetic and the skin. Allow to dry with help of a hairdryer until the result is transparent. Repeat this process until a nice and even transition is obtained.
LATEX PROSTHETICS = Latex prostetics
Colour the edges of the transition with the colour being used.
Work the make-up on the skin if necessary.
Fixing/matting

Powder it all off with Grimas Transparent Powder or Fixing Powder and then remove any excess powder.

= Transparent Powder
FIXING POWDER = Fixing Powder
You can create a skin structure with a Grimas Stippel Sponge if necessary.
STIPPEL SPONGE = Stipple sponge
FINISHING

This example makes use of the principle of 'aging'. To model the face, you accentuate the deeper lying areas using Crème Make-up in a dark colour. Important areas for shading are the eye sockets, the temples, the side of the nose and below the cheekbones.
You draw the lines with a flat sable-hair brush. By placing it obliquely on the skin you get a sharp edge on one side and a fading effect on the other side. To determine which side should be sharp and which side faded, you start from the centre of the face (nose). Create a fading effect towards the outside.

CRÈME MAKE-UP PURE = Crème Make-up Pure
You powder the face off with Grimas Transparent Powder, Fixing Powder or Make-up Powder. Apply the powder on top of the make-up. You can do this with a Make-up Sponge or a Velour Powder Puff. Allow to settle in and then remove any excess powder with a Powder Rouge Brush.

REMOVING THE PRODUCTS

Wool Crepe that has been stuck on with Mastix Extra you remove with Mastix Remover. You can then already pull some of the hairs loose and remove them with a tissue. The remaining hairs and the adhesive you remove with a cotton wool pad and Mastix Remover. Dab it carefully onto the skin and roll the residual material off the skin.

Removing a latex application: wipe a cotton bud soaked in Grimas Mastix Remover along the adhesive edge to loosen it. Remove the adhesive and make-up residues from the latex prostetic with Mastix Remover.

Massage Grimas Multi Remover Pure or Cleansing Cream into the skin and remove with a tissue. Cleanse the skin afterwards with cleansing lotion.

CLEARING UP THE MATERIALS

Store the make-up in a dry and cool place until the next time you use it.

The sponges are disposable so you can throw them away after use. If you do want to reuse them, first rinse them under the tap with some soap or shampoo or wash them in the washing machine (in a net bag or pillow case), set to at least 60°C.

You can clean brushes with water and soap or shampoo. Put the moist hairs of the brushes back into shape by hand after washing. Dry the brushes lying flat on a towel and do not place them upright, since that causes the moisture to run down into the shaft.

Clean the latex prostetic afterwards using water and soap, and powder it with Grimas Transparent Powder after drying (with a dryer, if necessary). Keep in a dark place.
